This camp will take day trips in our own "Adventure Shuttle Bus" to explore Blackwater Swamps, Barrier Islands, Nature Centers and more! These trips will enlighten your child about endangered species while exploring the outdoors on easy, fun adventures.
Activities include: kayaking, canoeing, hiking, paddleboarding, island exploration, swimming, touch tanks, red wolves, raptors, and many other live animals! Taught by University Degreed & Master Naturalist Guides and Interns as well as Certified Camp Counselors; First Aid/CPR and ACA Kayaking Course Accredited.
Mondays – Island Exploration Day – We'll spend the day on beautiful Capers Island State Heritage Preserve in search of dolphins, eastern shorebirds, shells and more! We'll board our very own privately chartered ferry boat with Barrier Island Eco-tours and discover critters that live in the bay. Then we'll explore the island's beach ecology, swim in the shallow waters (with life vests on) and have a picnic on the beach!
Tuesdays – Canoeing & Red Wolf Day – On this day we'll explore Wambaw Creek Wilderness Area and see the Red Wolves at the Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center. Campers will paddle a beautiful blackwater creek through a protected wilderness area in the Francis Marion National Forest. On our paddle we're likely to see small alligators, turtles and lots of neo-tropical song birds! Then it's off to see the Red Wolves and visit the Nature Exhibit hall and see a movie about wildlife in our area.
Wednesdays – Kayaking and Paddleboarding Day – Explore the gentle saltwater marshes of Shem Creek Shrimping Village. Kids will collect marine creatures to make a "touch tank" and will have "fun in the sun" while learning about dolphins, manatees and other animals important to our marsh ecosystems.
Thursdays – Zip & Climb Day! – We'll have a fun day zipping through the forest on Charleston's one and only Zip-line for kids located in Awendaw! They'll also enjoy a climbing wall and can play other outdoor games including corn hole and more.
Fridays – Native American and Raptor Day – Center for Birds of Prey & Native American Indian Ruins - Campers will visit the incredible Avian Conservation Center in Awendaw at the Center for Birds of Prey. Here we'll see native raptors as well as African eagles, hawks and many others. We'll even experience a flight demonstration too! We'll also hike to the Sewee Indian Ruins and see a 4,000 year old ceremonial shell ring and view and touch Indian artifacts and search for raptors in the sky.
*Individual Day Camp Days will be open if the camp is not filled. Price will be $75/day.
