Learn to kayak and paddleboard during your break from school! Ages 12-17 welcome!
Located at our own private boat ramp, campers will have the best of everything.
We'll teach them kayaking and paddleboarding 101, safety issues and skill development along the way. Sign up early, space is limited!

Swamp and Marsh Ecology Discovery Field Trips

Mt. Pleasant, Moncks Corner, Awendaw and McClellanville, SC

Other areas: Edisto River, ACE Basin and Santee

Curriculum based field trip activities led by University Degreed Biologist / Master Naturalist Guides

I’on Swamp Wildlife Ecology Hike and Reptile Program:  

Awendaw, SC in the Francis Marion National Forest

Includes a hike into the edges of the Swamp where we’ll dip net for dragonflies, water beetles, fish and more! We’ll set up a touch tank of Swamp critters students can discover. We’ll also bring local, native reptiles including snakes and turtles for a nice hands on experience to learn how these reptiles adapt to a Swamp habitat. The trip includes a 1.5 mile hike on the earthen dikes built on the Wythewood Canal.

$8 each: Chaperones and Teachers are free. Ages 4 and up welcome on this trip.

Blackwater Creek & Swamp Wilderness Ecology Kayak and Canoe Program:

Wambaw creek wilderness Area in McClellanville, SC in the Francis Marion National Forest

Or

Wadboo creek, Swamp & Rice Plantations – Moncks Corner, SC

On this field trip we’ll “slip into the swamp” in kayaks and canoes and discover the quiet, serene blackwater areas of South Carolina. Students will discover Cypress and Tupelo trees in a Beautiful flooded Forest, see abandoned rice fields and canals as well as learn about the neo-tropical birds, reptiles and overall ecology of the Swamp. Led by University Degreed / Master Naturalist guides and Certified kayak Trip Leaders and Instructors.

Shem Creek & Crab Bank Island Marsh Ecology Kayak Program:

Mt. Pleasant, SC

On this field trip we’ll slip into the marsh and discover crustaceans and wetland shorebirds along the way. This is a slow moving marsh creek environment that meanders through a historic Shrimping Village. We’ll also include a touch tank of live critters for further discovery.

1 Hour: $18 each, 2 Hour: $22 each, 3 Hour $28 each; Groups of 20 or more receive a $3 discount per person.

This rate applies also to chaperones and teachers.

In need of a good deed to do this month? Look no further. NAO is seeking corporate sponsorships for our Get OUTDOORS and UNPLUGGED Youth Explorers Student (YES) Field Trips!  What will your sponsorship get you? Visibility in our various advertising mediums including social, print and other venues. Where does your money go? This program helps rural youth in the South Carolina Lowcountry. In partnership with the Awendaw Regional Outreach Center, your donation is a 100% tax deduction for you!

$100 - Blue Heron Level:  

Get extensive social media and online marketing coverage, plus print media in local papers and distributions – Sponsors 4 students on a 2 hour guided kayak Tour or 10 students on our Marine or Swamp Ecology Discovery programs

$200 - Great Egret Level gets the above plus:

On-site banner and company materials – Sponsors 8 students on a 2 hour guided kayak Tour or 20 students on our Marine or Swamp Ecology Discovery programs

$300 - Osprey Level gets the above plus:

Radio coverage and your logo on event T-shirts – Sponsors 12 students on a 2 hour guided kayak Tour or 30 students on our Marine or Swamp Ecology Discovery programs

$400 Barred Owl Level gets the above plus: 

Social media coverage and blog write up – Sponsors 16 students on a 2 hour guided kayak Tour or 40 students on our Marine or Swamp Ecology Discovery programs

$500 - Eagle Level gets the above plus: 

4 free tickets aboard the Fish Eagle Osprey Wildlife Eco Tour boat or 4 kayak or Stand Up paddleboard Rentals at either Shem creek or Santee State Park – Sponsors 20 students on a 2 hour guided kayak Tour or 50 students on our Marine or Swamp Ecology Discovery programs                                                               

$600 – Swallow-tailed Kite Level gets the above plus:

4 free tickets aboard the Fish Eagle Osprey Wildlife Eco Tour boat and 4 kayak or Stand Up paddleboard Rentals at either Shem creek or Santee State Park – Sponsors 24 students on a 2 hour guided kayak Tour or 60 students on our Marine or Swamp Ecology Discovery programs      

Even if the sponsorship does not cover the entire class, they can apply the sponsorship donation towards the entire class trip, making it more affordable for every child.
