Explore Nature
Amazing Wildlife Right Around Every Corner
Charleston has a lot more than just seagulls. Here are just a few of the animals you are likely to see when you get off the pavement and get outside with us.
Bottlenosed dolphins are all over the place and are regular visitors at Historic Shem Creek. They love to come close and put on a show. If you're lucky, a manatee or two may show up there too.
Take a trip into one of our blackwater areas like the ACE Basin and you'll see eagles, otters, owls, and maybe even an alligator. Don't worry, they keep to themselves.

Most Popular Blackwater Tour
ACE Basin Estuary
“One the the last great places on Earth” – The Nature Conservancy
The Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto Basin (ACE Basin) is one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the Atlantic Coast and provides miles upon miles of waterways to explore.
Our most popular blackwater tour in the ACE Basin is Penny Creek, a tributary of the Edisto River, just 25 miles from downtown Charleston. You will enjoy paddling near, around and through Cypress and Tupelo trees in this majestic swamp creek. This is the perfect mini getaway into the wilderness just outside the city.
