Explore the creeks and open marsh around Shem Creek and Crab Bank Island with paddleboard rentals that work around daily water conditions. Launch areas and suggested routes vary based on tides, wind, and current conditions to keep paddling manageable and efficient.

Before heading out, staff provide basic instruction on balance, paddling, and reading the water. From a standing position, paddlers have a clear view into the marsh, where pelicans, wading birds, fish, and dolphins are commonly seen along the waterways.

Paddleboard rentals are suitable for both first-time users and experienced paddlers. Two-hour rentals are the most popular option, offering enough time to get comfortable on the board, explore multiple areas, and return without feeling rushed.

Is paddleboarding suitable for beginners?

Paddleboards are stable and designed for calm water. Falling in is safe when done properly and common for beginners. Life vests are provided, and paddlers can kneel or sit if needed.

What about weather and conditions?

Paddleboard tours operate in light rain and overcast conditions. Wind and tidal flow matter more than rain. If conditions exceed safe limits, rentals may be delayed, adjusted, or rescheduled before launch.

What kind of wildlife can I see?

Atlantic bottlenose dolphins are commonly seen while kayaking in Charleston’s tidal creeks. Pelicans, egrets, herons, and other coastal birds are frequent. Manatees are rare but possible in warmer months.

Do I need a reservation?

Yes, we recommend booking in advance to guarantee equipment.

Can I bring my dog?

Pets under 50 pounds are allowed on rentals. No pets on tours, please. Please bring a towel for them to lay on to protect the equipment. If you are not sure how they will do around the water, a life jacket for them is also recommended. No refunds will be offered if your pet does not like the experience and your time is cut short.
