10 Great Things To Do In Charleston

09 June 2021

Obviously there are a ton of things to do if you have a little wiggle room in your budget, but you still want to make sure you get your money’s worth. So what should you do?

Crafted Travel Sippin Tour

Walk out your front door to be greeted by the party bus and enjoy being whisked away through the winding lanes of oaks to Charleston’s only vineyard. Breathe in the quiet peacefulness of the moss-draped trees and rows upon rows of grapevines on your way to the tasting room, where you will learn all about the process used to make each of the wines included in your tasting. Once you’ve enjoyed your fill of sweet muscadine wine, you will move to the distillery where spirits range from old-fashioned moonshine to apple pie. After pleasing your palate with liquor tastings galore, the tour will move to a local brewery for a final pint and a bite to eat. You’ll be dropped back off at your door with a bag full of goodies and memories of local flavors still buzzing on your tongue.

Farm-To-Table Culinary Tour

This truly one of a kind experience starts at the nationally ranked Charleston Farmer’s Market. You will meet your tour guide and your personal chef at the corner of the market, from whence they will guide you through the busy stands, helping you to choose from the freshest in local offerings. After you have successfully wound your way through to your contentment, your chef will depart to start on your uniquely personalized multi-course meal while your guide enthralls you with a walking tour of the most iconic places in Charleston. Once you have filled your heads with knowledge of the local area, you will be led to your chef to fill your bellies with a meal crafted from your findings at the market alongside other local fare-a true farm-to-table experience.

Carolina Salt Surf Lessons

If you’re going to learn to surf, especially on the East Coast, do it right and get your lessons from a pro. No, not just someone who has been surfing all their life, although that is a good option too. If you’re going to get lessons, take them from a guy who has Championship trophies spanning decades and continues to win in the sport. Charleston local Kyle Busey wanted to share his love of East Coast surfing with anyone who was willing to learn and thusly formed Carolina Salt Surf Lessons. East Coast surfing is drastically different than West Coast surfing, or surfing anywhere else for that matter. Because of the infrequency of large waves, it is often said that if you can surf the East Coast you can surf anywhere. And Kyle wants you to surf. He translates the bliss of the ocean into workable teachings to get you comfortable enough that by the end of the lesson you will have caught at least a handful of waves and ridden them in with hands held victoriously over head. These are the #1 rated surf lessons in Charleston for a reason.

½ Day Flyboard Package

What IS flyboarding? Do you remember those jetpacks we all thought we’d be flying around in by now? It’s like that, but on water. Your group will be picked up by the sport boat at Bristol Marina and transported to a tiki hut barge where you can turn up your music and get the party started. Your group will have a variety of activities to choose from, including paddleboards, group floats, and a 25 ft water mat. Add on unlimited wakeboarding, tubing, and boating to make this already amazing event into the ultimate day on the water.

Ocean Course Kiawah

Kiawah Island is a luxurious island tucked away and hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is here that celebrities and even Vice Presidents go to escape the world which hounds them. Home of the 2007 Senior PGA Tour, the 2012 PGA Tour, the 2021 PGA Tour, and the #4 Public Golf Course in America, the Ocean Course was designed by Pete Dye to make great use of the views afforded by the Atlantic Ocean bordering the island. Well-known in the golf world as one of the most difficult courses to play due to changes in wind and nature, this course was designed as a 2-in-1 (one for an easterly wind and one for a westerly wind). From one round to the next, a player can experience up to an 8-club difference on holes depending upon the direction and strength of the wind, making for an interesting afternoon among betting fellows. The Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere – 10 right along the Atlantic with the other 8 running parallel to those. When you’re done hitting the links, head over to the Atlantic Room, which offers a world-class fine dining experience. If you simply want to drink your losses away, the Ryder Cup Bar offers a relaxed atmosphere without having to miss out on the view and menu of the Atlantic Room.

Fly In Helicopters Lighthouse Tour

See Charleston from a vantage point few get to experience. Depart from Patriots Point via helicopter and see sights such as the USS Yorktown from above. Fly high over the Harbor and visit the local lighthouses by air. Make sure to bring your camera to capture the unique angles available from the sky.

Seabrook Equestrian Center Scenic Trail Rides

It’s not often you get to ride a horse through the tall grass surrounding lowcountry creeks and marshes. Seabrook Equestrian center is world-renowned for its lovely pastures and its location near the beach. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through one of Charleston’s most private islands in search of your own oasis. Breathe in the sweet salt air and listen to the wind rustle the reeds as you peacefully glide along atop your very own horse. A brief lesson will be given beforehand, so don’t fret if you’ve never actually been on a horse before. The serene majesty of this exotic beast will transport you to a world within yourself.

Have a steak at Hall’s Chophouse

Locals and visitors alike can’t stop raving about the steaks at Hall’s, a well-known fine dining restaurant. You can’t go wrong with any item on the menu, but you will definitely be missing out if at least one person in your group doesn’t get a steak. Known for more than their culinary prowess, the attire here ranges from sundresses to suit and tie; Charleston is a place where diversity reigns supreme. While the delicious fare is the focal point that brings people in, it is the familiar atmosphere that keeps them coming back; once you’ve been a guest at Hall’s you are part of the family and you will not be forgotten. (Also, check out their Sunday Gospel Brunch)

Drinks at the Pavilion Rooftop Bar

If you’re into the finer things in life, one of your must-do’s will be a stop for drinks at the Pavilion Rooftop bar. This rooftop oasis sits high over historic downtown Charleston with views unattainable elsewhere. Signature cocktails, a vast assortment of delectable menu items, and a cascading rooftop pool push this Charleston favorite into a level of sophistication all its own. Watch the sun set over the city in style and with drink in hand. You won’t regret it.

Charleston Kayaking Review

I cannot say enough good about Nature Adventures! From the get go, they were extraordinarily nice. I am grateful for the constant reminders to not touch the oysters or get out of the kayak as I got stuck in an oyster bed and had to be rescued. Dana and Ben went above and beyond to rescue me and not make me feel like I was an idiot for getting stuck. 5 stars is not enough!- Diana A.
